Resin-bonded CBN grinding wheels are grinding tools made with cubic boron nitride (CBN) as the abrasive material and a resin binder. They are specifically designed for the precision machining of ferrous metals and high-hardness materials (such as hardened steel, alloy steel, and heat-resistant steel), covering fields such as automotive parts, bearings, molds, and aerospace. Their processing efficiency and surface quality are significantly superior to traditional grinding wheels, and they are compatible with high-speed CNC grinding machines for automated production.
The structure of these grinding wheels includes a working layer (containing the abrasive), a transition layer, and a base. They are classified into four types based on the binder: electroplated, sintered, resin, and ceramic. Electroplated types are suitable for small-batch processing of complex shapes, resin types are used for tool and glass processing, and ceramic types, due to their trimmability and high-temperature resistance, have become the mainstream for high-speed, high-precision machining. CBN grinding wheels have a hardness second only to diamond, a heat resistance of 1250-1350℃, and strong thermal conductivity, which reduces workpiece thermal deformation. Their chemical inertness prevents them from reacting easily when processing ferrous metals, but alkaline coolants should be avoided.
